Group Artemisia

ARTEMISIA
The group Artemisia, named as a tribute to a great painter of the first half of the seventeenth century, who became famous as a portrait painter Artemisia Gentileschi.
Was celebrated in art books as the daughter of a famous master who as a painter, only recently re-evaluated between the protagonists of the seventeenth-century painting.
Fully counter-challenged the current morality and assumed positions unconventional and revolutionary for its time, wanting to assert its independence as a woman and artist.
He painted large portraits and compositions inspired by historical and celebratory, his painting, which often found the female figures, heroic and even aggressive, always have a grace and strength in the plant design, that seemed extraordinarily modern.
For these reasons we called our group by name to pay tribute, and because we recognize in Artemisia an example of feminine qualities that seem valuable.
Like almost all the painters Artemisia was the daughter of a great painter, but worked with him, he created an independent career.
The characteristics of our group: we are five women who have chosen to work as professionals in the world of painting, some of us teach arts subjects in schools, one dedicated to the paintings.
The painting is constructed, in our experience, working from life, with a model that serves as a starting point for artistic achievement that can be more or less adherent to visual reality. Often the real need to activate a fantastic process that is linked to images seen or dreamed or inspired by works of art.
We have a very similar way to work and have similar intentions, because we had a teacher in common from which we learned the practice of painting and with whom we met: the professor and friend Louis Lomanto have learned the practice of a profession that the art of the '50s and '60s seemed to have finally overcome. The Dada art has hijacked the interest in facilities, installations and interventions, even though it is in art and costume, reject the connection with tradition.
We think that the link with the traditional painting, has never really broken, and that you can now paint with a language that is contemporary and unconventional.
For this we use materials such as linen, oil paints, brushes, bristle, wooden tablets, and media preparations are made by us, but we also use pure colors, strong contrasts and use the additional to highlight the shapes, colors suffer from the experience of the avant garde and the Fauves.
In painting, as is often the very substance of the work, so the same subject, represented with a transparent color to overlap, is very different when represented with color paste, a layer material and opaque, and its diversity is not only visual, but also poetic, does not change that only its appearance but also its meaning.
Preferably the subjects represented are human figures, often female, sometimes nude, is a choice dictated by the ease with revenue in line with a flexible and ever-new subject, which can in turn transform and take on very different appearances .
Teamwork means, discuss the choices we make and compare them, then serves as a stimulus to avoid complacency and to avoid a risk always lurking for a painter.
It also means looking at our work from different points of view, there is also the practical aspect, which allows us to split the costs and make less expensive studio work and the exhibition.
The exhibitions are required to complete the communication process work painting: The artist receives suggestions from the world around him and he needs to answer an inner need to transform these stimuli in the practice operational processes that become paintings or drawings, communication occurs when the painting or the work drawings are displayed and returned to the external environment.
